Dear Editor:
I live near the Osoyoos Airport and often watch airplanes, including small commuter planes, dropping off and picking up passengers to spend time visiting our town.
The Oliver/Osoyoos Search and Rescue Buffalo aircraft often carries out practice missions using our airport. So when town council voted to continue talking to look at all options for the Osoyoos Airport, I was very relieved.
The event that happened in late July proves how valuable it is to have our own airport. There was a medical emergency and someone had to be airlifted to the coast. I watched while the ambulance, fire truck and police congregated at the airport and waited for the air ambulance. The patient was transferred to the air ambulance and all emergency vehicles waited until the helicopter was in the air before they left the airport.
I was impressed by the teamwork and expertise of everyone involved. If there were any concerns about how important the Osoyoos Airport can be now and in the future, hopefully those concerns can now be dispelled.
