Dear Editor:
Hope all is well in the news world. I thought I would just write a little letter to the editor about what’s been going on at Haynes Point Provincial Park.
I just wanted to thank Osoyoos Indian Band Chief Clarence Louie for speaking so well on this matter.
I have been finding myself very frustrated with all the local “facts” that have been popping up in letters to the editor and in the court of public opinion.
The one question that keeps coming to mind is, “How would the people of the Town of Osoyoos feel if they knew that the Lakeview Cemetery would become someone’s toilet 1,000 years from now?”
The point of having ancient burial sites is so we can be remembered and be kept in the place where we are buried.
How disrespectful is it to be so upset when your daily walking routine is interrupted and so quickly forget the First Nations people of this land?
Good grief.
I want to give a deep thank you to Chief Louie for stating true facts and also being so diplomatic in your understanding of peoples’ intolerance of other cultures.
Thank you for allowing me to write about this very important issue that means so much to First Nation people in this area.
