Dear Editor:
I wrote a letter to the editor that was published in the Osoyoos Times on Aug. 16, 2016 about the speed limit on Highway 97 heading north from the Highway 3 intersection.
“We take our lives in our hands trying to enter our driveways,” I wrote.
“This stretch is far too fast. It should be 60 km/h at best.”
I have included a picture of what is left of my truck after attempting to enter my driveway on a clear night last Wednesday.
Luckily there were only the two of us on the road, no oncoming traffic, or this would have ended up worse.
I ended up 100 feet past my driveway, in the left lane. She was on the shoulder ahead and to the left of me.
Care to re-think that speed limit, Ministry of Transport?

I bet the highway was there BEFORE your driveway ever showed up. We can’t reduce speed limits at every point on the highway where someone has an access. IF that was the case, the speed limit would go from 80 to 50 to 80 to 50 thousands of times between here and Kelowna.
If the driveway access is unsafe based on lines of sight, the Ministry of Transportation should consider closing the access.
