Special to the Times

How much to get into Desert Park’s Open House on the August  long weekend?

Zero! Free! Gratis! Complimentary! No charge! For nothin’! Free of cost! Diddly-squat! Notta cent! Sweet nothin’! Zilch! Nada! Zip!

As we well know, there’s not much that’s free anymore… “no free rides!”

Well, Osoyoos’ Desert Park (yes, the horse racing track and equine centre up beside the Osoyoos Golf Course) is throwing their gates open for the day, hoping you, your family, out-of-town visitors and friends alike can join in a few fun-filled hours and get to know us a bit better.

Here’s a great way to explore yet another part of our South Okanagan paradise and aside from maybe buying a gourmet hot dog everything is “on the house!”

Along with free admission, there’s a free tour of the property and facilities, a free dog agility demonstration, free kids face painting, free kids zone, free pony rides and free music by Rebel Luv.

Bring your own picnic and blanket or enjoy the already famous-in-the-South Okanagan customized gourmet dogs from “The Wienery.”

This is a great way to celebrate the holiday weekend and explore a real Osoyoos’ treasure that’s hidden in our own back yard.

Desert Park’s open house is on Monday, Aug. 5. Gates are open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Desert Park is located at 4665 Pebble Beach Drive (just past Osoyoos Secondary School and across from the Osoyoos Golf Course).
