A 64-year-old male Osoyoos motorcyclist is dead as the result of a single-vehicle collision in Oliver Tuesday afternoon.

RCMP South Okanagan Traffic Services said a witness saw the motorcyclist try to avoid a deer, then going off the road and striking a utility pole.

The accident occurred near Ridgeview Road north of Oliver on Highway 97.

The male was conscious at the scene and was treated by BC Ambulance.

He was transported to South Okanagan General Hospital in Oliver for further examination, but succumbed to his injuries Tuesday evening.

RCMP say neither speed nor alcohol were factors in this collision.

The B.C. Coroner Service and South Okanagan Traffic services are investigating.
