Viewers across North American and around the world will soon be able to view a television commercial promoting one of the world’s nicest most popular luxury automobiles that was shot partially near the Town of Osoyoos.
A camera crew and production team contracted by Ford Canada to promote its 2013 Lincoln model were in and around Osoyoos for a couple of days to shoot a television commercial that will soon be broadcast across the country, said Jon Summerland, director of the Okanagan Film Commission.
“The crew spent a day and a half in Osoyoos,” said Summerland. “The commercial was also set to film in Whistler, Tofino and Vancouver. It’s a 10-day shoot. The commercial will be shown in many nations throughout the world. It’s always great to have footage of our region shown everywhere because it will attract more shoots and more crews to this region.”
The production company responsible for putting the television commercial together is called “Knucklehead Productions” and operates out of the United Kingdom and contacted Summerland only three days before crews were sent to Osoyoos to start filming the commercial, he said.
“They contacted me three days before they were ready to shoot and wanted me to give them some suggestions and Osoyoos came to my mind,” he said.
“When it comes to automobile companies, you’re talking people with not a lot of time, but a lot of money.
“They were looking all over British Columbia and they wanted something totally unique to shoot the Lincoln commercial. After I recommended Osoyoos and the unique desert setting, they jumped on it and crews were sent here.”
The commercial was shot on Nighthawk Road, located 20 minutes west of Osoyoos, heading towards Cawston.
Other major automobile companies have shot television commercials in Osoyoos over the past couple of years, including one shot on Anarchist Mountain and another up near Richter Pass, said Summerland.
“They seem to love Osoyoos and area because the landscape is beautiful and the weather is generally great,” he said.
The Okanagan Film Commission is in negotiations with producers to shoot as many as three Westerns in the next several months, said Summerland.
The movie Gunless was shot here a couple of years ago and one producer is looking at shooting another movie at the same site, he said.
Another producer is looking at producing a movie supposedly set in Texas and is considering shooting much of it here in Osoyoos, he said. Negotiations with those producers will continue in the coming weeks, he said.
