Dear Editor:

Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs wanted to extend a huge thank you to the communities of Oliver and Osoyoos.

This past Christmas we asked our communities to step up and support others in need through the Adopt A Family at Christmas Program. The response was overwhelming.

For many families in the South Okanagan, it is difficult to make ends meet and this challenge is often magnified during the holiday season. We know how important it is to provide something a little more special to our familie – maybe a turkey dinner, a small gift, a warm coat or a special treat and for many this is difficult to do.

Thankfully, several local individuals and businesses recognized how important it is to help their neighbors brighten their holiday season and so 14 of our families in Oliver and Osoyoos were given the support with generous donations of food and gifts.

One single parent family from Oliver who was sponsored told us, “I am very appreciative and overwhelmed at the generosity of the hampers. The children absolutely loved everything, and the donations made our Christmas very, very special.”

Similarly, a single mom from Osoyoos stated, “We got a ton of baking supplies and ingredients. It is hard to afford baking items on a tight budget, so that was really exciting for us to receive. We love to bake together. I’m really excited for my kids this Christmas. It may sound like a small thing but it was really special for me.”

Other feedback we received from our sponsored families is, “If it were not for the support, we would not have made it through very well. I would really love to repay the gift.”

“It made my daughter’s eyes light up. It was the best Christmas my daughter and I have had in years. It was overwhelming. Christmas would not have been the same without the generosity shown to us.”

“I was overwhelmed by the kindness, and this donation saved Christmas for us.”

The kindness and generosity of our community is outstanding.

Thank you to all who made a difference to the children, youth and families in need in our community. It is really appreciated.
