MUSEUM CAN BE JUSTLY PROUD OF ITS SUCCESSES IN 2006

(OSOYOOS TIMES — Dec. 27, 2006) —

A lot of us can look back on 2006 with a sense of satisfaction, knowing we made some headway in our lives or our jobs, our hobbies, or whatever.
But someone who can look back on the past 12 months with particular pleasure and sense of accomplishment is Gayle Cornish, Director of the Osoyoos Museum & Archives.
As she reported to Town Council at its December 18 meeting, 2006 has seen a quantum leap in the operation of the Museum.
Much of the remarkable progress has been thanks to the countless hours of diligent work put in by Cornish and her trusty band of board members and other volunteers.
For that, everyone in Osoyoos owes them a big Thank You, because now the outlook for our Museum “ long known as one of the best small-town museums anywhere “ is much brighter, with an operation that is on a much sounder footing.
That's on almost all fronts.
As Cornish told Council, the funding that has come through in 2006 is helping tremendously “ including $39,000 in core funding from the Town, further core funding from the Regional District, a first-time B.C. Arts Council grant, and the prospect for much more funding now from foundations that insisted the Museum first get this core funding.
At the same time, Cornish and company have been upgrading their building and putting in more professional systems, such as a proper archives database computer program.
And Cornish has attended some conferences, to improve her understanding of what more needs to be done, and to network with other professionals to spread the good word about our Museum.
All-in-all, it's been a tremendous year for our Museum, and we wish Cornish and her board even more success in 2007!
