Dear Editor:
In 1964, after years of debate and sometimes haranguing, a new Canadian flag was chosen by our federal government.
The Canadian flag was approved by parliament and on Feb. 15, 1965 proclaimed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
It is described as a red flag of the proportions two by length and one by width, containing in its centre a white square the width of the flag, bearing a single red maple leaf centred therein.
We have now proudly flown our Canadian flag for 50 years. It is well known and respected throughout the world. It would be nice if people would fly the flag correctly. It grieves me to see so many Canadian flags flying dirty or in tatters on various buildings and flagpoles. The people who fly them do not have any pride in their flag or country.
