If you like music, choir and raising money for good causes, Brian Mapplebeck from Oliver has the concert for you.

It is based on a composition he did on the last book of the Bible (Revelations).

“It is very dramatic, and the way things are going these days I thought, well, it would be good to do.”

Mapplebeck said he purchased some Timpani drums to make the concert as orchestral as possible.

He plans to do this every spring on different subjects. “We didn’t get as many singers as I’d like to but we’ll amplify them of course to get the balance.”

Mapplebeck said he was sitting around (like most people) during the pandemic and thought he should do something.

“I’m getting on in years so, heh, heh, heh.”

He pointed out the proceeds will go to the less fortunate in society, such as those who rely on the food bank in Oliver and the women’s shelter in Penticton.

“I’m thinking of people that are having problems and down and out and it just struck me that would be good (to support).”

Mapplebeck is paying for most of the expenses to bring this concert to three venues.

“I figured, well, I’ll just spend the money . . . you could spend it on worse things.”

Admission is free but donations and items for the food bank are welcome.

Mapplebeck said he believes people will enjoy the concert, noting the composition is divided into four parts featuring instruments such as violins, trombone, piano, xylophone and glockenspiel.

The Revelation concert will be held April 8 at Oliver Alliance Church at 7 p.m., April 9 at Osoyoos Seventh-day Adventist Church at 7 p.m., and Oasis United Church in Penticton at 2:30 p.m.
