The semi-truck cab that was seen in Osoyoos Marina early Saturday morning was a case of “trusting a GPS system that took the driver down the wrong path,” according to Sgt. Jason Bayda, Commander of the Osoyoos RCMP.
Responding to Times Chronicle queries Bayda said the Osoyoos RCMP were called to assist Osoyoos Fire Rescue at 4:20 a.m. Saturday, April 27 with a semi-truck that was partially submerged in the Osoyoos Marina.
“The driver, a 54 year-old man from Surrey was following his GPS guidance when it inadvertently took him down the boat ramp,” Bayda said. Due to darkness, the driver did not realize until it was too late, he added.
“Thankfully the truck did not become fully submerged and the driver was uninjured although trapped in the cab of the truck until a couple of local fire crews swam out to rescue him,” Bayda said.
Social media had been partially abuzz over unfounded speculation that the truck had been stolen and dumped in the marina. Original story here.
