A riding mower fire was jumped on fast to prevent further spread in Oliver on Tuesday.
Firefighters were called to Nk’Mip Vineyard Road where a riding mower caught fire next to a home and fence. The cause was not immediately determined.
Fire department spokesman Rob Graham said the fire ignited some brush on the other side of the fence
“Thankfully the spread was not too fast and we were able to jump on it quickly,” he noted. “The concern would have been if it did get away, there was lots of dry grasses and brush in that area that would have spread quickly.”
Graham said the department advises residents to always be aware of dry grass and the potential for a blade to start a spark if it hits a rock. And always have a water hose nearby, he pointed out.
