Interior Health wants to let everyone know South Okanagan General Hospital’s emergency room will be closed again this weekend.
” . . . from 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 6 to 8 a.m. on Sunday, July 7 due to lack of physician coverage,” the health authority confessed.
Those facing emergency can still call 9-1-1, Interior Health reminds. The next closest emergency department is at the Penticton Regional Hospital – 550 Carmi Avenue, Penticton.
Last month during a public Q&A, health services administrator Karl Meadows was asked if recent upgrades to SOGH will deal with doctor shortages. He was optimistic that the renovation would help deal with the problem, because “When you innovate, infuse and add money” into an emergency department, the more modern workplace will attract more professionals to want to work there.
