The Osoyoos Coyotes rose to the challenge with a season-saving victory in a difficult situation on Wednesday night, down three games to none in the series, facing elimination, on the road.
The situation looked even bleaker on Wednesday, Feb. 22 in Armstrong, when the Coyotes were down 6-4 with less than two minutes left in the game. But, roaring back, Coletyn Boyarski scored at 18:38 for the Coyotes to pull them within a goal with time winding down.
Subsequently, with the goaltender pulled to give a final push with the extra skater, Payton McDonald-Corea scored his first goal of the playoffs to tie the game 6-6 at 19:19.
Riding this momentum into overtime, with their season on the line, Reese MacLean lifted the Coyotes to victory with his first goal of the playoffs to send the seven game series back to Osoyoos for the Coyotes to fight another day.
The game had all sorts of scoring and only three penalties. The game erupted with six goals in the first period resulting in the two teams going into the first intermission tied 3-3. In the second period the two teams traded a goal each to go into the third period tied 4-4. The final score was 7-6 for the Coyotes.
Game five will take place Friday Feb. 24 at 7:35 p.m., at Sun Bowl Arena in Osoyoos where the Coyotes will be facing elimination again with the series now at three to one for the North Okanagan Knights.
