Participants from Oliver will join millions of people from all over the world to celebrate International Move for Health Day on or around May 10.
In Oliver we will be hosting our Move for Health Day on Saturday, May 9, from 9 am to 3 pm at the Oliver Community Centre and arena.
This will be a great chance to come out and try some of our fitness programs and activities.
Each year Move for Health Day organizers around the world encourage people to get up and get moving. This year Oliver Parks and Recreation will offer the following free activities for people to try:
– Body Shred Bootcamp Preview from 9-10 in the arena
– Children’s activities with Blake from 10-1 in the Community Park
– Pickle ball from 10:15-11:45 in the arena
– Zumba with Lori from 12-1 in the arena
– Yoga with Judy from 1:30-2:30 in Meeting Room 2
– Zumba Gold with Stephanie from 1:30-2:30 in the arena

The World Health Organization urges its member states to promote Move for Health Day each year to promote physical activity as essential to health and well-being.
Also scheduled on May 9 in Oliver is the annual “Walk with Your Doc” event. A walk is being organized by two physicians (Venter and Bellingan) at Oliver Community Centre this Saturday starting at 9 am.
Doctors are prescribing a healthy dose of daily activity and are using the walk as a way to spread awareness about the benefits of daily walking.
Participants will receive a free pedometer for signing up in order to track their steps and continue a healthier lifestyle. The sign-up website is at www.walkwithyourdoc.ca
Studies show that daily walking helps maintain weight levels, boost the immune system, lower stress, and prevent memory loss.
Doctors recommend patients walk at least 30 minutes every day in order to maximize on the many health benefits.
