Police got to use spike belts and a helicopter to force two men into submission.

Earlier today, the Osoyoos RCMP were tipped off about a suspicious truck along Whitetail Road. It was described as a Ford F350 towing a trailer with an industrial generator on it, matching the description of a theft that took place in Kelowna a few hours earlier.

Osoyoos RCMP teamed up with their Midway counterparts to set up containment at the intersection of Whitetail Road and Highway 3, and an RCMP helicopter from Kelowna was called in.

Officers used two vehicles to try and to block the truck from leaving Whitetail Road, but the truck driver avoided both police cruisers and drove through a ditch. He then went over two spike belts and continued driving west along Highway 3. But not for long – about two kilometres later, all the tires had deflated and the truck lost control and went off the road.

“Both males, 30 and 35 years old from Kelowna had no where to hide as the RCMP helicopter hovered over them,” reads the RCMP report.

The two men were arrested without further incident. They face charges of possession of stolen property, flight from police and dangerous driving. The 30 year old was also wanted on Vancouver Island for possession of stolen property.

“The Osoyoos RCMP would like to thank those civilians travelling on Highway 3 that stopped and stayed back while this dynamic situation unfolded and until both males were taken into custody.”
