A Tuc-el-Nuit Elementary student has learned that the mind is a powerful thing, and so is the pen.

Last month Matthew Mythen approached teacher/librarian Marlene Kearsley about an idea to add Rubik’ Cubes to the school’s Mindful Center because he finds them very calming.

“He wanted to make a difference at our school and support the use of the Mindful Center so I encouraged him to put it in writing,” Kearsley said. So Mythen took the initiative to write to the Kiwanis Club of Oliver.

“The Rubik’s Cube is a puzzle that students past and present have found relaxing,” he wrote.

Mythen explained that the Mindful Center is a place where students can go to calm down.

“This Rubik’s Cube would certainly calm our students down and can also train one’s brain for critical thinking in the future,” he said.

Kearsley said the club was very impressed with Mythen’s letter and soon dropped off four Rubik’s Cubes.
