The Town of Oliver will continue to keep its cooling centre open until Sunday, July 21 as the Heat Warning continues for the Southern BC Interior. Elevated temperatures are expected and there is a moderate risk to public health.
The cooling centre is located at the Oliver Community Hall (6359 Park Drive) and is open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Environment and Climate Change Canada says the hot conditions will continue this week with daytime highs in the mid to high 30’s and overnight lows in the high teens.
The extended period of high temperatures are continuing as a ridge of high pressure remains over the region.
Little relief is expected at night with elevated overnight temperatures with forecasts suggesting that the high temperatures will continue through the weekend, then become more moderate early next week.
Heat affects everyone, but the risks are greater for: seniors, people who live alone, people with pre-existing health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease or respiratory disease, people with mental illness such as schizophrenia, depression, or anxiety, people with substance use disorders, people with limited mobility.

In Osoyoos the Sonora Community Centre (8505 68th Avenue) is available as a cooling centre Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
