Long-standing volunteer Lois Brummet was honoured by the Desert Valley Hospice Society for her extensive volunteer work on Dec. 19.
In particular, Brummet was cited for her work in putting together a library at the hospice on Jonagold Place which was named in her honour as the Lois Brummet Library.
On the wall in the library is a plaque which reads: “In recognition of Lois’ many years of volunteer service to Desert Valley Hospice Society and her many donations of books that are available in this library.”

Lois Brummet takes in the plaque emblazoned with her name.
Unveiling the plaque, Linda Larson, DVHS President said: “Over the years, many years, one of our volunteers has contributed to this library extensively and has been probably, I’m going to say one of our greatest resources, whether it’s by book or by in her head.”
She went on to say that the impetus for the award came from fellow volunteers to acknowledge all of the work that Brummet has done.
“She’s our resource for Desert Valley Hospice and has been for 15 or 20 years,” Larson said. She added that it’s hard to recognize our volunteers, there is no monetary reward, “so something like this is a small thing but something we can do and we are honoured to be able to do it.”
Looking at the plaque emblazoned with her name, Brummet was given over momentarily by tears before she said: “It is a passion, it’s from my heart and I’m very fortunate because I get to meet so many wonderful people. Thank you very much.”

Separately, the OCU presented a $3,000 cheque to the Desert Valley Hospice Society (DVHS) for training of their volunteers.
