After leading his last regular meeting of Town of Osoyoos council, Mayor Stu Wells said he has loved virtually every minute since he first joined council nine years ago.
“It has been my honour and my pleasure to be the mayor for the past six years,” said Wells, who announced he would not be seeking re-election three weeks ago.
Wells spent one term as a town councillor before being elected mayor during the municipal election in 2008.
“It has been very, very special and I have enjoyed it all,” said Wells.
With councillor Sue McKortoff announcing her intentions to become mayor, the only incumbent councillor seeking re-election in the upcoming municipal election on November 15 is C. J. Rhodes.
Wells said it is exciting that the new council will be seeing several new faces and candidates who will look to bring fresh ideas to the council table.
He wished the new mayor and members of town council nothing but the best of wishes moving forward as community leaders following the election.
Coun. Michael Ryan, who announced two months ago that he would not be seeking re-election, praised Wells as an outstanding mayor and community leader over the past six years.
“I wish you all the best and I think you’ve been a wonderful mayor,” said Ryan. “You have been a consensus builder … and it has been a thoroughly enjoyable event coming to council meetings.
“It was thoroughly pleasurable to be working with members of this council and particularly you, Mayor Wells.”
Wells hasn’t ruled out a return to politics in the future.
