Police are concerned about the recent theft and attempted thefts of vehicles in Oliver. They are using forensics in hopes their investigation will lead to a suspect.
Vehicle thefts and the attempted thefts of automobiles in Oliver kept the RCMP busy last weekend.
Police responded to a total of 45 calls for service from midnight on Friday, Aug. 28 to noon on Sunday, Aug. 30.
These calls included: Three abandoned 911 calls, two theft of property, one break-in to a fruit market stall, six traffic offences, two motor vehicle collisions, 11 suspicious circumstances, two intoxicated males, three found property, one road hazard, one bylaw offence, two theft of vehicles, three attempted vehicle thefts, one theft from vehicle, four disturbances in progress, one false alarm, one mischief to property, and one check involving a person’s well-being.
Sergeant Blaine Gervais said the amount of thefts and attempted thefts of vehicles in such a short span of time is not typical for the Oliver Area.
“Unfortunately the attempted thefts of vehicles caused significant damage to the ignitions.”
Gervais said RCMP forensics will be searching the vehicles for evidence leading to a suspect.
