A persistent victim of vandalism at its former Canal Walkway location over the course of 2021, the Osoyoos Story Walk has found a new home along the Gyro Park waterfront walkway.
An outdoor reading experience, the StoryWalk boards have now been installed along the walkway starting at the Gyro Park parking lot and ending at the Osoyoos Sailing Club.
Gerald Davis, director of Community Services at the Town of Osoyoos said that after the storyboards were installed along the Canal Walkway they were continuously vandalized, ultimately prompting the Town to remove them.
“We addressed the vandalism a few times in the beginning and then just decided this wasn’t working so pulled them and got them out of there,” Davis said.
“We just wanted to put them in another area that was more visible and used quite a bit so that it would be something that tourists and locals would actually utilize.”
The Story Walk features Jeffrey Bennett’s story Max Goes to the Space Station displayed on boards along the walkway for kids (young and old) to read as they stroll along the path.
The story is a prequel to the other books in Bennett’s Science Adventures with Max the Dog series, which follows Max on his trip to the International Space Station where he shares in the adventures of astronaut life and helps save everyone from a potential disaster along the way.
Max Goes to the Space Station aims to help kids see the planet in a different way and teaches them how to improve the world we live in. Alongside the story, there are also a number of sidebars with scientific facts and interesting information.
