Emergency personnel were called to a single-vehicle accident Monday morning involving a tractor trailer that rolled over and trapped the driver. The driver was rescued and airlifted to hospital in Kelowna as a precaution, though his injuries were believed to be minor. A second male who was in the sleeper at the time managed to free himself and was taken to hospital in Oliver with minor injuries. Osoyoos RCMP said the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown to the passenger side floor where he became trapped in the wreckage. The accident occurred when the truck, pulling a 53-foot trailer, failed to negotiate the sharp corner and rolled onto its passenger side and slid into a no-post barricade on Highway 3 east of Mule Deer Drive. Anarchist Mountain Fire Department, Osoyoos Fire Department and BC Ambulance paramedics worked together to free the driver from the wreckage. Highway 3 was closed for about two hours before being reopened to alternating traffic around 1:30 p.m. until a heavy-haul tow truck could be brought in. (Keith Lacey photo)
