Oliver won’t have the same impact at the UBCM convention this year, but council is gathering its wish list anyway.

The virtual (and abbreviated) event in September will consist of meetings via conference call only.

On Monday council discussed the issues that it would like government ministers to address.

Councillor Aimee Grice said one issue is the town’s continued search for Gallagher Lake siphon repair funding.

She also mentioned infrastructure funding becoming overbudget due to the economy, and funding for an economic recovery coordinator for Oliver.

Mayor Martin Johansen said the town should have pricing for the siphon by September, noting the government is looking at how to spend $1.5 billion (hopefully Oliver gets a piece of the pie).

Director of Operations Shawn Goodsell said four companies will be bidding on the siphon contract.
