Dear Editor:

We were pleased to read in the April 8 issue of the Osoyoos Times the article about increased support for a national park reserve in the South Okanagan-Similkameen.

After so many years of hearing about opposition to this proposal, it is refreshing to know that more people are seeing the good sense of it.

It is now time for those of us who want to see the preservation of this land to start actively promoting it by placing ‘YES’ signs on our property, just as have the detractors of the program put ‘NO’ signs all these years.

I am disappointed each time we drive up or down Highway 97 or along Highway 3 and see those ever so prevalent signs advertising that those particular land owners do not think it is necessary to preserve that land for ourselves and future generations.

Instead of accepting this attitude of “so sad, too bad”, let us begin “to get on our highest horse” with a sign that says “Yes to a national park.”

Those leading the ‘No’ campaign have been getting most of the attention, but it’s time for those who support the national park to start voicing their support about this important project as soon as possible.
