Dear Editor:
The Canadian Cancer Society is excited to be rapidly approaching our brand new Daffodil Dash event taking place on Sunday, April 26 during Daffodil Month. Daffodil Dashes are taking place around the province in Vancouver, Smithers, Osoyoos and Invermere.
The Osoyoos event will be at Lion’s Park, starting at 10 a.m.
This is our first year for this new event, which was created to give communities another option for supporting the Canadian Cancer Society and those battling the disease.
The event was planned with an eye to those communities where Relay For Life events were waning due to declining support and participation, offering a shorter, simply fun event to gather everyone together in support of this important cause.
We invite all community members of Osoyoos and area to gather your friends, family and co-workers together, dress in yellow and dash your petals off at this family friendly event.
Even if you are not registered, please just come out and join in the fun. We want to create a sea of yellow through the streets of Osoyoos to show our support for those in our communities who have battled or are currently fighting cancer.
Funds raised will support life-saving research, benefitting all of us.
Overall cancer survival rates have increased from 30 per cent to 63 per cent thanks to advances in research, and we want to see that number hit 80 per cent.
Knowing that about half of all cancers can be prevented, we lead prevention initiatives and advocate to government for safer public policies.
For people right here at home in Osoyoos, we deliver support programs to those touched by cancer including financial support, accommodations while away from home for cancer treatment, peer support programs, cancer information services, and Camp Goodtimes for children.
If you would like to pre-register for this event, which gives you access to your very own personal online fundraising page, you can do so at www.cancer.ca/daffodildash.
