With one cannabis shop open for business in Osoyoos, three more are now waiting for provincial approval before coming back to the town for the necessary bylaw amendment votes.

Council voted unanimously at the Dec. 2 regular meeting to give first and second readings to the required zoning amendment bylaw for Vancouver-based Budzilla Cannabis Inc. The company is applying to establish a retail cannabis shop at 9150 Main St. (Lakeview Plaza).

A public hearing will take place on Dec. 16 regarding the latest application in council chambers at 4 p.m.

Director of planning and development services for the Town of Osoyoos, Gina MacKay, said there is “no new news” on the status of the other two applications to open shops — one in Gateway Plaza and the other at 8304 72 Ave, both of which have received third reading of the bylaw amendment and now await the province and town’s final approval.

“Once the province completes what they call the ‘fit and proper’ part of their review of the applicant they will identify to us whether they are willing to grant preliminary approval and would come back to council for fourth reading,” MacKay said.

After which a shop can be set up and inspections take place prior to final approval from the town.
