Another resident has died at Sunnybank Retirement Centre in Oliver marking the sixth death related to the COVID-19 outbreak at the Oliver long-term care centre.
Sunnybank long-term care in Oliver has 38 cases, Interior Health reported Monday, with only eight of those cases remaining active. The new case reported at Sunnybank was attributed to an essential visitor.
“The ‘other’ case is an essential visitor that has been tied to the outbreak. This is not a new case,” an Interior Health spokesperson told the Times-Chronicle.
“Interior Health is monitoring when people living in long-term care are eligible to receive their second dose and will allocate vaccine for this purpose dependent on supply,” IH stated in an email.
There were three new deaths related to COVID-19 in the Interior Health region reported Monday, including the death at Sunnybank, for a total of 81 in the region since the pandemic began. The two additional deaths in the IH region occurred in the community or in hospital. Between Feb. 5 to 8 there were 152 new cases of COVID-19 identified in the IH region.
“Our condolences and thoughts go out to the families and friends of the three people who passed away this past weekend. Their deaths are a tragic loss for our communities which serve as a clear reminder to all of us the importance of following public health orders to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and to protect ourselves and loved ones during this challenging time,” said Susan Brown, president and CEO, Interior Health.
