An eccentric Osoyoos man, who planned to run as an independent candidate in the Oct. 19 federal election, has pulled out ahead of Monday’s nomination deadline.
Doug “Stone Dan” Pederson said he failed to obtain the required 100 signatures to be nominated.
“The signature collection task was more of a problem than I expected,” said Pederson, 67, who said he stopped asking friends because it created bad feelings when they refused to sign.
Pederson has run in previous elections at federal, provincial and municipal levels, usually placing dead last.
He is an advocate for transparency by politicians and for marijuana. He believes that his medicine stones give him supernatural powers.
Confirmed candidates in South Okanagan-West Kootenay are Richard Cannings (NDP), Marshall Neufeld (Conservative), Connie Denesiuk (Liberal), Samantha Troy (Green) and Brian Gray (independent).
