After an absence of two years, Osoyoos’ Easter Eggstravaganza enjoyed record crowds as sunny weather on Saturday April 16 made for a fabulous family day at Gyro Beach Park.

Describing the event as “egg-cellent” Ken Baker from the Osoyoos Festival Society which organises the annual event, said everyone was thrilled with how it turned out. “It’s a huge crowd, the weather worked out for us and we couldn’t ask for anything more.”

In previous years the event was split between the elementary school and the town plaza but Baker thinks it will likely remain at Gyro going forward. He estimates the crowd was twice the size of previous years, no doubt fed by some pent up pandemic frustrations.

The day kicked off with the traditional pancake breakfast organised by the Rotary Club Osoyoos.

A bicycle decorating contest and games, including a sack race kept the kids busy while waiting for the main event.

With so many children present the Easter Egg Hunt was divided into three age groups with each of those divided in half. Overall, 3,000 tiny chocolate eggs were snatched up by excited egg hunters.

Osoyoos Fire Rescue  was also on hand, keeping hunger pangs at bay with grilled hotdogs. Music was provided by Diane Ball.

The event was organised by the Osoyoos Festival Society.
