The Southern Okanagan Sportsmen’s Association is proposing a community dock system for Rotary Beach in Oliver.

In a letter to Town council, association director Mathew Lewis indicates the desire to build a handicap accessible ramp, trails and dock on Tucelnuit Lake.

Lewis says there is limited publicly maintained water access in the community, therefore, the goal is to enhance the year-round use of the park.

He’s hoping the project will attract more anglers, non-motorized boat enthusiasts, swimmers and nature photographers.

Lewis says he is not asking the Town for money, only support to begin a stakeholder engagement process. Once they have conditional support, the sportsmen will be able to start planning and asking for donations to build the project.

Lewis says it will require significant funding, but he believes this money can be obtained through direct fundraising and provincial/federal grants.

Judging from brief communications so far, residents seem “eager to throw their hats into the ring to help out,” Lewis says.
