Dear Editor:

I was once told by a wise old man, not to  believe everything you read.

Well, in last week’s edition of the Osoyoos Times, I came across another article about the possible installation of water meters, or should I say one of the many articles that has been written about this proposal.

Normally I do not respond to articles in newspapers, but one thing caught my eye in this particular article and I sure hope it isn’t based in reality.

What was written was, “The town will also be hiring a water ambassador at the cost of about $20,000 to engage in public education for five months between April and September.”

I had to ask myself, do I believe everything I read?

I sure hope not.

What I read is telling me that our town council is considering paying someone $20,000 to tell all the good citizens of Osoyoos that they need to conserve water.

Are you kidding me? These are the things that drive people crazy. Are we that stupid and naïve?

We all know that water conservation is very important as most of us endured having to water our lawns on alternative days throughout the drought last summer.

The article I just read continues to tell us that it’s likely we are going to have to do this again in the spring and summer.

The article also states, to all us naïve citizens, that the water ambassador will be coming to tell us all how to make this happen.

We are in an economic downturn and need to save all we can, so when the crunch comes, and it will, we will be in a better state of financial affairs.

Two past mayors have given many good points as how to approach this so-called “water problem” and if I may suggest that maybe, just maybe, our present mayor and council will listen to those suggestions.

And that means no water meters in our community and no water ambassador being paid for by local taxpayers.

All the best to this great little town.
