Dear Editor:
I am writing in regard to the letter last week from Nick Marty, and also others that have appeared in the past regarding rural customers of Fortis.
I am addressing in particular the statements that make it appear that only rural customers are so adversely affected by the increases by Fortis. Do the people in rural areas not realize that many of us that dwell within town boundaries also use electricity to heat our home and water?
I too, have had increases that total well over 20 per cent in the last two to three years. I wrote a letter to the BC Utilities Commission, waited patiently for a reply, and when it finally arrived; reading between the lines it says: they asked for an increase, we said yes, and that’s that.
I do understand that in the rural areas there may not be a choice to go with gas for space heating, but that does not mean that all the homes in urban areas have gone the gas route.
Again, I just want to inform the people always complaining of this two-tier system, myself included, that it is not only rural people whom are victims of the Fortis monopoly that is in the Okanagan.
