Shoppers Drug Mart in Osoyoos once again raised money for Desert Valley Hospice Society (DVH) this year under its Growing Women’s Health campaign, formerly Tree of Life. Steven Hopp, pharmacist and owner, and Daisy Li, pharmacist and in-store captain for the program, handed over a cheque for $4,289 last week. The four-week campaign ran from mid-September to mid-October and customers contributed by purchasing “icons” at checkout representing such things as leaves and butterflies. Hopp said all the money raised goes to the charity selected by the store and there is no administrative fee. About $500 was also raised at a barbecue in October. The funds raised will help to support volunteer programs at the hospice society. DVH trains and educates volunteers to provide end-of-life care to patients in residential care, at home or in hospital, as well as support for their families. (Richard McGuire photo)
