With the population of the Thompson Okanagan region expected to grow by 250,000 people by 2046 residents, businesses and visitors are being asked to provide input to a transportation survey that will help shape the future of transportation in the region.

The Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association (TOTA) and the University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBCO), with support from the Economic Trust of the Southern Interior, have launched the Inter-Community Transportation Survey

The survey, which is open until September 12, 2024, invites businesses, residents, and visitors to share their thoughts on transportation needs and preferences within the Thompson Okanagan region.

The population growth of the region, estimated by StatsBC to increase by a quarter million people by 2046 means input from the public is crucial in shaping the future of transportation, say the partners.

The survey results will guide planning and advocacy efforts to enhance transportation options between communities, ensuring a connected and sustainable future for the Thompson Okanagan.

“We encourage all business owners, residents, and visitors in the Thompson Okanagan region to participate in this important survey,” said Ellen Walker-Matthews, CEO of TOTA.

“Feedback will play a crucial role in shaping the future of transportation, making travel between our communities more efficient, sustainable and accessible for everyone.”

A quick and easy five minute survey asks participants about their transportation habits, preferences for new options, and the factors influencing their travel choices.

Notably, respondents will be asked to rank five feasible inter-community transportation options, assuming all were available:

  • Personal vehicle
  • Bus
  • Electric commuter rail
  • Carpooling/Ridesharing
  • Vehicle rental

Participants are eligible for a draw to win one of several prizes, including:

  • 3-night stay at Big White Ski Resort with three days of Alpine or Nordic Skiing/Boarding for two adults, including night skiing/boarding (where available).
  •  2-night stay at Summerland Waterfront Resort in a studio condo-style suite equipped with a full kitchen, fireplace, and private balcony.
  • a Predator Ridge Golf Experience featuring four rounds of golf on either The Predator or The Ridge Course, with a shared cart and access to the practice facility (Package value $1,000).
  •  Fall Family Getaway in Kamloops, including a one-night stay at the Vista Inn, $50 dining credit at Moxie’s, 2 adult passes to the BC Wildlife Park, and a pair of Kamloops socks.

The survey, available until Sept. 12 is available here.
