The chase was on when an RCMP officer spotted Ronald Teneycke in Cawston this morning.

At 10:35 a.m. an officer involved in the active search for Teneycke spotted a vehicle similar to the one stolen by the fugitive yesterday in Oliver.

An RCMP press release stated that as the officer got closer he was able to confirm Teneycke was alone in the vehicle.

When Teneycke saw the officer he accelerated in an attempt to flee. The offender drove to Fairview-Cawston Road and into the rural mountain pass that leads to Oliver.

Corporal Dave Tyreman said RCMP Air Services was involved in the search and followed Teneycke up Fairview-Cawston Road where he was intercepted by the RCMP Emergency Response team.

“Teneycke did not stop but instead turned around and drove back toward Cawston,” Tyreman said.

Teneycke was pursued by the Emergency Response Team to Lowe Drive in Cawston and then into an orchard where he was ultimately apprehended.

“We are thankful the arrest was made without any injuries to our officers, the general public, or Teneycke,” Tyreman said.

The prolific offender has been transported to a neighbouring detachment where he is expected to appear in Penticton Provincial Court sometime tomorrow.

RCMP resources from Oliver, Osoyoos, Penticton, Keremeos as well as the RCMP Emergency Response Team, police services dogs and the federal and Serious Organized Crime Section were utilized in the search and successful apprehension of Teneycke.

“Thank you to the general public for their patience while we attended to this dynamic situation as well as those from the public that provided updated sightings of Teneycke throughout the area,” Tyreman said.
