The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) has advised the public that it will be conducting pile burning near Apex Mountain Resort Village and smoke may be visible in the area.

The Wildfire Service said it is supporting the Okanagan Shuswap Natural Resource District in burning 15 piles, around the two kilometre mark on the Keremeos Creek FSR, approximately two kilometres southeast of the Apex Mountain Resort Village.

Smoke may be visible from Keremeos, the Apex Mountain Resort Village, Penticton, and surrounding areas, and to motorists travelling along Green Mountain Road and Highway 3A, the BCWS said.

“These piles are a result of rehabilitation work that occurred after the Keremeos Creek wildfire and removal of this debris will support ongoing objectives,” it added.

The exact timing of the pile burning will depend on weather and site conditions, but it could begin as early as Tuesday, Feb. 3. Burning will proceed if conditions are suitable and allow for smoke dispersal during burn operations, though smoke may also linger in the following days, it said.
