Camper’s fire runs away

Police and firefighters attended a grass fire on the hike and bike path off Thorpe Road at approximately 2:30 pm on July 14.

Oliver Fire Department spokesman Rob Graham said a camper on the riverbank had a small campfire that got away on him. The fire managed to spread about 100 feet before firefighters knocked it down, Graham said.

On Monday, July 15, firefighters were called to Gallagher Lake Village Park where a spark from machinery was the suspected culprit in a grass fire.

The blaze was quickly extinguished by workers on site. No structures were impacted.
