Structures continue to be threatened in the “aggressive” Inkaneep Creek fire burning approximately six kilometres north of Osoyoos.

Fire Information officer Kyla Fraser from the BC Wildfire Service reported the fire has grown to 300 hectares as of 6:30 p.m. She noted that BC Wildfire crews and aircraft continue to action the blaze.

Meanwhile, the Oliver Fire Department is continuing to extinguish spot fires and protect homes in the area. Some residences have been evacuated, but there has been no report yet of any structures being burned.

Fraser said the fire is showing aggressive behaviour with steady winds not helping the situation. She said the cause is still undetermined.

At one point it was reported that the fire that started on a mountaintop off Nk’Mip Road crossed the roadway into a field. The fire has also prompted a large power outage in the area.

Oliver is being assisted by Osoyoos Fire Rescue and the Willowbrook Volunteer Fire Department.
