Murder trial delayed

The long-awaited trial for Osoyoos Indian Band member Kyle Louie has been put over to March.

Louie was scheduled for trial on Monday for the alleged murder of his younger brother Reece Louie. Reece was found bleeding outside his home on Black Sage Road where an altercation occurred in February 2011.

Cop helps keep fire at bay

An Osoyoos RCMP officer put on his fireman’s hat last week to help a senior fight a structure fire.

At 3:19 am on November 13 police were called to a fire on Alkali Road.

A neighbour noted a large structure on fire next to the residence on the property. He called the owner who did not answer the phone.

The police officer utilized his police car siren and woke the single occupant of the house. The officer then assisted the elderly man to turn on the sprinkler system and use a garden hose to keep the fire from spreading to the nearby house.

The fire is thought to have started from a floor heater left on inside the detached structure.

Cell phone taken by patron

On November 11 an Oliver taxi driver had his cell phone stolen by his fare.

Quick intervention by police resulted in recovery of the item and the identification of the thief.

Despite the theft, no charges will be followed up as a result of this investigation.
