The BC Tree Fruits Cooperative is processing 30 per cent fewer apples this year compared to 2012, said Chief Executive Officer Alan Tyabji.
This is primarily because of weather-related damage, he pointed out.
As a result, Tyabji made the decision to discontinue apple production at the Kelowna plant. But he noted that all three other plants (including the one in Oliver) are operating at full capacity packing fruit for market.
“We continue to service a very high demand, which may result in us reaching the end of our crops a bit earlier than last year,” Tyabji said.
“The quality of our fruit is excellent and is receiving good support from our partners and buyers.”
