His students already know he’s a good teacher, but Ivor Langley was especially pleased to be chosen by his peers recently as B.C.’s Technology Education Teacher of the Year.
The Osoyoos Secondary School (OSS) tech teacher has been teaching for 33 years and has been in the South Okanagan since 1998.
Langley was chosen for the award by other technology teachers from across the province. The award was presented by the B.C. Technology Education Association (BCTEA) at its annual conference in Vancouver on Oct. 24.
“It was awesome,” said Langley when asked how he felt to be told he was the provincial winner. “It’s nice to get recognized by your peers.”
As a young teacher, Langley said he felt in awe of more experienced teachers who received awards such as this one.
“I don’t feel any different than what I was when I started,” he said.
Langley instructs students in a number of trades-related skills ranging from woodworking to welding to computer-aided design.
OSS vice principal Shannon Miller said the school is very proud of Langley’s achievement.
