The Osoyoos Fire Department and RCMP responded to a house fire near 92 Ave and 87 Street late Monday morning.

Around 20 firefighters attended the call which was made just before 11:30 a.m.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Osoyoos RCMP Sgt. Jason Bayda said early indication is that it was started accidentally.

Bayda also said the home was well known to police who had been “paying some extra attention” to it.

“There were people in the home but everyone made it out okay,” said fire chief Ryan McCaskill.

The residents were taken to South Okanagan General Hospital in Oliver as a precaution.
