Premier Christy Clark was in Oliver on Monday to promise $525,000 for repairs to the damaged irrigation canal. A rockslide in January at Gallagher Lake caused the damage.

We’re happy Oliver is getting this needed funding, but we wonder why Clark didn’t come down to Osoyoos while she was at it to offer similar funding to keep Osoyoos Secondary School open.

Cannings disses Liberal budget

Not surprisingly, MP Richard Cannings isn’t happy with the budget announced yesterday by the federal Liberal government.

Cannings accuses the Justin Trudeau Liberals of backtracking on their promises to tackle inequality and of breaking promises to First Nation children.

Cannings wants the government to spend more money on such things as restoring home mail delivery, funding homecare and funding rural broadband.

Taking the opposite approach are the Conservatives, who argue the forecast deficit of $29.4 billion means the government is spending too much.

Cooler today, but fingers crossed for Saturday

Today won’t be quite as balmy in Osoyoos as yesterday’s high of 16 C. The forecast high for today is 11 C, becoming cloudy with 30 per cent chance of showers this afternoon.

The important day though is Saturday when Osoyoos holds Easter Eggstravaganza. Currently Environment Canada is forecasting 12 C with a mix of sun and cloud.

Easter is early this year, so good weather isn’t quite as sure a thing as for some Easters in the past.
