The Town of Osoyoos has agreed to join the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) sign initiative extolling the virtues of working together.
The RDOS invited all regional First Nations and municipalities to join its new “One Region Working Together” sign initiative to “symbolize and affirm” the benefits of working together as a region on shared issues whenever possible.
The RDOS is proposing that small signs be created that prominently display the logos of all participating local governments. “These signs will serve as a visual representation of our shared commitment to working together in the spirit of cooperation and unity, and that we are one connected region,” the proposal reads.
Mayor Sue McKortoff highlighted some of the benefits of working together, saying “there’s strength in advocating to the province and the Feds for money.
“There’s also efficiency and cost savings when ordering things, it’s an important consideration,” she said adding that there is also regional district expertise that municipalities can tap. Solid waste is another area where various municipalities work together.
Now that the Town has agreed to participate, the RDOS will provide a completed sign for display at the Osoyoos municipal office.
The actual size of the sign is not known but Marg Coulson, Director of Corporate Services said a mock-up of the proposed sign in the RDOS board room measured approximately 60cm by 90cm. Coulson added the sign had to be large enough to accommodate the logos of all participating municipalities.
