$60,000 up for grabs!
Project to create a lasting legacy that supports social, environmental and economic well-being of the community.
In honour of its 60th Anniversary, Osoyoos Credit Union is accepting applications for a $60,000 donation to be made in support of a community project that will create a lasting legacy in the Osoyoos Credit Union service area.
General Manager Bill Collins, who made the announcement last Friday, said the Osoyoos Credit Union service area also includes Green-wood, Oliver and Keremeos.
The Osoyoos Credit Union 60th Anniversary Community Award will be provided to a non-profit organization for a major project that supports the social, environmental or economic well-being of the communities served.
Funding may go towards development, capital, operational or endowment needs.
The general criteria for the award is as follows. The project should:rn- be self-sustaining in the long term;rn- create a lasting legacy in a community in credit union's service area;
– support the social, economic and/or envi-ronmental well-being of the service area.
Projects may be developmental in nature, taking up to five years to roll out. They may also involve partnerships with other organizations or service clubs, but may not be used for administration or coordination purposes.
The winner will be selected directly by the credit union's members through a voting process to be held this September.
Deadline for appli-cations is Friday, April 28, 2006 at 5 p.m. (PST). Non-profit organiza-tions in the Osoyoos Credit Union service area are invited to submit a two-page letter of intent.
Details, including award criteria and a sample letter of intent, are available in-branch at the Osoyoos Credit Union (8312 Main Street), on request by mail at Box 360, Osoyoos, B.C. V0H 1V0 or by internet at www.osoyooscreditunion.com.
Letters of intent will be reviewed by a committee made up of Osoyoos Credit Union staff and directors. Following this, a selected group of organizations will be invited to submit a proposal project by June 30, 2006.
Credit union mem-bers will vote on a short list of finalists in September, with the successful project being announced at an Osoyoos Credit Union 60th Anniversary Gala to be held October 19, 2006.
Bill Collins said the Osoyoos Credit Union wants to be front and centre in the community throughout this anniver-sary year.
To that end, the credit union will be involved in a number of events, including a dinner to celebrate their pioneer long-standing members, which will be held at the Osoyoos Elks Hall on May 27. The credit union will also be sponsoring a skateboard competition sometime this summer, and will be soliciting member testimonials to appear in print and on radio.
Our 21 staff and nine board members will be working together on our community events. We've decided to take the whole year to celebrate our 60th Anniversary, and we're also involving all our members in choosing this legacy project, Collins said.
The idea is to have fun and to pay something back to the community, he added.
