A Heat Warning issued by Environment Canada with temperatures soaring up to 39°C this week has prompted the Town of Oosyoos to remind residents and visitors that both Sonora Community Centre and the Sun Bowl Arena are available as cooling centres during period of extreme heat.

Heat affects everyone but the risks are greater for seniors, people with pre-existing health conditions such as diabetes, heat disease or respiratory disease, people with mental illness, and people with substance-use disorders, the town added.

Watch for the effects of heat illness and call 8-1-1 for advice.
