AG Foods in Osoyoos was able to raise $1,370 for the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society of Canada by serving hot dogs and beverages out front of the store last Saturday.
“Everything here is donated so it’s 100 per cent profit to the MS Society,” said Cor Vermeulen, event co-ordinator.
Hamburgers were donated by Harvest Meats; Canada Breads donated the buns, Coca-cola supplied the drinks and AG provided the wieners.
The hot dog cart was manned by manager Derek Morgan and staffers from AG Foods.
“We wouldn’t be able to do it without the support of AG staff,” said Vermeulen.
In the past seven years, AG has donated around $70,000 to the MS Society.
Vermeulen said the disease affects many people in the South Okanagan, including his wife, who has been living with it for 20 years.
Both of the Buy Low Food locations in Oliver and Osoyoos will also be holding barbecue fundraisers for the MS Society.
Those barbecues will take place on Saturday, May 13 out front of the stores.
Morgan said it’s important for him and members of his staff to give back to the community and that’s why he never has any problems recruiting staff to participate in community events like the MS Society fundraising barbecue.
Residents of Osoyoos are always generous and love coming out to support events like this, said Morgan.
It’s a good feeling to see other businesses come forward to support worthy causes and he applauded all of the businesses that assisted him and his staff in putting on this year’s fundraising event, said Morgan.
