Residents are also reminded that open burning is for agricultural materials only, which does not include dimensional lumber, pallets, cardboard/paper products or any other non-agricultural material. The

The five Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) fire protection areas – Anarchist Mountain, Kaleden, Naramata, Okanagan Falls, and Willowbrook – also fall under the Kamloops Fire Centre and as such open burning can take place from Oct. 17 to Tuesday, April 15, 2026.

Fire Chiefs in the five protection areas may extend or reduce the burning season should conditions allow or require. They may also suspend any burning at any time, should they deem it unsafe or if smoke is creating an issue. “Please be mindful of smoke affecting your neighbours,” the RDOS urged.

Residents within the five RDOS fire protection areas are required to complete a Burn Authorization application. If you are unsure of which area you fall under visit the Public Parcel Viewer to confirm which Fire District boundary your property is located in.

There is no fee, and no permits will be issued. Requests will be directed to your selected fire department. For Area A – Rural Osoyoos (Osoyoos Fire Rescue/Anarchist Fire Department) and Area C – Rural Oliver (Osoyoos Fire Rescue/Oliver Fire Department).

Visit the Permits & Licences tab on the front page of the RDOS website to access the Burn Authorization application, or click here.

Burning authorization holders must confirm burning is allowed on that day by checking the Air Quality and Venting Index online or by calling 250-490-4125.
