Jumping out of a helicopter on a skateboard would be unthinkable for most people. To professional skateboarder Danny Way it’s just another day at the office. But Way’s outrageous endeavours aren’t the only reason Jamie Elder is a fan.
Elder is the owner/operator of Unity Clothing & Boardsports in Osoyoos. He said it is Way’s passion for the sport, and determination that impresses him. Elder said that passion is best illustrated in the documentary, ‘Waiting for Lightning,’ which he said tells Way’s “inspiring” story of personal triumph over his tough childhood, and his contributions to the sport. It also includes footage of his jump over the Great Wall of China. “I cannot say enough good things about this film. His story will just blow you away,” said Elder.
Elder has partnered with the Oliver Theatre to bring the documentary to town for a special viewing this Friday evening. The event is a fundraiser with the proceeds going to ‘For the least of These,’ which will use the money for shipping costs in its charitable work.
“We try to do a few fundraisers a year and this just seemed like a great cause. Those guys have such big hearts.” Elder added that he is also thrilled to be partnering with the theatre for the event. The show is set for Friday, August 9 at 10:30 pm. Tickets are available at the door. Cost is by donation.
